BOXING DEFENSIVE HAND METHODS
Defender has the heel against the wall, shoulder bladed towards the attacker to reduce the target size. The puncher throws punches with intent and pressure but not weight.
CAGE: High elbows, long arm Thai style
WINDSCREEN WIPER: Lead arm low, elbow tight to the side, rear hand high. Similar to the old semi contact point fighting guard.
CRAZY MONKEY: Hands come up the centerline, hands ‘washing’ the hair. Aiming to get the attacker to land on the elbows. There is constant motion and ‘washing’.
Putting it all together: It was great to be under pressure, feel some hits getting through, staying calm, keeping moving and keeping the eyes open. Nigel, who was taking the class, said these methods are for practising covering when under fire to enable you to stay protected then fire back.
GLOVE WORK (against the jab, then the cross)
Female footwork (forward 45 step) – parry/combat tan sau and jab
As above into elbow strike to the head – hit the back of the head and scoop the arm for the spiraling head control. Thumb into the neck, male footwork and apply the knees to the head or leg.
Male footwork (usually 45 backward step) slight step laterally then bring the other leg back on the 45 as he is charging down the centerline with either the jab or the cross. Attack with the punches and follow up with the technique applied with the female footwork.

10/5/16 Muay Thai, pad rounds and double stick
MUAY THAI
As last Tuesday - working the thai round kick from distance, then from closer by rotating the hips inn the Silat style then kicking.
Against the jab and round kick
1: crush: catch the jab, crush then return with a round kick.
1: inner thigh kick: catch the jab, step offline, inner lead leg thigh kick, round kick.
3: stop hit: catch the jab, right cross over the top as the kick comes in, round kick.
4: stop kick: catch the jab, stop kick (lead teep to belt line or oblique kick to front leg), round kick.
Putting it all together. Try to get the punch in so they can feel the right energy and move accordingly. The responder picks one of the above. This was a great tool because you were forced to think and react under pressure whilst putting the techniques in a random order. I think this enabled me to remember them better...
PAD ROUNDS
Feeder throw a jab and round kick, respond with either and number 1 or 2 from the above list.
10 second Tabata rounds
1: jab - cross
2: cross - hook
3: uppercut - uppercut
4: hook - hook
DOUBLE STICK
Backhand - forehand
With footwork
Roof and return
Putting it all together: Person going forwards did 4 strikes (backhand-forehand-backhand-forehand) then 1 big downward strike, they roof, they return and you do it again. Swap roles.

5/5/16 Boxing evasion, pad rounds and knife
BOXING - EVASION
The main theme of the boxing portion of the class was evasion.
Our primary tool os to move the feet, strategy two, when in closer, is moving the body out of the line of punches. We drilled the methods of slipping, shoulder rolling, bobbing and weaving.
Feeder throws alternate solo jabs; response is slipping. Point with the shoulder, keep the spine up not bent over, lose the neck. So if he throws a left jeb, you slip with your left shoulder.
Feeder throw double jab; response is slip outside, make a mistake by slipping inside, then weave under to get back on the outside.double crossSlipping outside, inside, weaving. Repeat the same actions when the feeder throws a double cross.
Feeder throws a straight lead and then a rear hook; response is slip then bob and weave.slipping, bob and weave.
Feeder throws a straight lead and then a rear hook, response is shoulder roll then bob and weave.
Feeder throw 40% speed continual straight and hook punches; putting it all together, evade, evade, evade. Hands up, lose the neck, use the legs not bending at the waits, eyes always on the attacker. Try to see the lines of attack based on where their punches are starting from.
PAD ROUND
Feeder throw jab-cross-hook-hook; response is slip-slip-bob and weave-bob and weave - hook-cross-hook.
KNIFE
Same as Tuesday
Against the hooking stab to the head: Step off line, intercept the knife wrist as you stab towards the eyes, twist your body to control the knife hand. Scoop the blade arm down and towards him. As it passes the centreline ,capture the elbow and stab with your knife.
Knife v empty hand: Intercept and finger jab to the eyes, scoop the arm to control and singer jab to the eyes, take control of the thumb and control or strip the knife.

3/5/16 Round kick masterclass, pad training and knife stab defence
ROUND KICK MASTERCLASS
KEY TIPS THAT RAN THROUGH THE CLASS
high hips
strong ankles
hands ups
turn the hips over
KICKING FROM LONGER RANGE WITH THE STRONG ANKLE
Thai stance, step out with leg and turn out the knee, throw the kick and turn the hips over, keep the hands up.
CLOSE RANGE NO STEP HIP ROTATION X 2 THEN KICK
Like above but from a closer range. Twist the hips to open the knee, keep the eyes forward. Do this motion a few times then perform the kick.
Begin with any lead hand strike to set up the round kick
HELPING THE KICK ROUND AT THIGH AND MIDSECTION
Kick to your partner, as it lands, they take a few steps continuing the arc of the kick so get used to the feel of the rotation of hips.
KICKING ROUND AND FOLLOWING THROUGH
As above but working the complete follow through and rotation.
CRUSHING
Lift the knee and turn the shin out to meet it. You want to be able to unbalance him as he kicks, one eye cover and long arm block/off balance.
We practised kicking, then crushing and following up with our own kick.
BACK SWEEP
Crush his incoming kick, step in and strike, step between his feet, undertook his arm and sweep
PAD ROUND
He kicks, you crush it, return the kick and follow up with a hook-cross-hook
KNIFE AGAINST STAB TO THE HEART (with hammer grip)
1: Weight forward, tip of the knife pointing towards him, weight forward. As the stab comes in, shift the weight back to get the core out of the way, cut down (with ice pick grip), pak the knife arm and stab in to the neck.
2: As above, but slaw the forearm after the interception, go for the stab, he blocks, clear the path and stab in.
